Chestnut Ridge Residents Awarded Quilts of Valor for Military Service

In honor of their military service, four Chestnut Ridge residents were awarded Quilts of Valor on Saturday, November 2. Among those recognized were Dutch Zellner, Clifford Chest Strauss Jr., William A. Remo Jr., and John Robert Bergstresser.

Quilts of Valor is an organization that produces handmade quilts to commend Service Members or Veterans whose lives were impacted by war. Recipients are nominated or awarded the quilts (not gifted). Since its inception, Quilts of Valor has distributed over 350,000 quilts.

Residents and staff gathered in the multipurpose room to honor these brave individuals in an emotional ceremony. Their services spanned the Navy, the Army, and the Marine Corps.

Each veteran was given a plaque commemorating the event after their respective quilts were wrapped around them.

Upon receiving his quilt, Zellner said, “All gave some, some gave all, and they will never be forgotten.”

All four individuals were nominated by Ross Gaumer, a veteran who received his quilt while living at the Terrace at Phoebe Allentown. After receiving his quilt, Gaumer nominated nine other veterans. Now a resident of Chestnut Ridge, Gaumer was also present at the event.

Phoebe would like to thank these four individuals and all our veterans around the country for their incredible sacrifice.
