Residents Bring Green Thumbs to Phoebe Organic Farm
During August, Phoebe Organic Farm hosted numerous opportunities for Chestnut Ridge residents to visit the grounds and experience the joys of farming. The gorgeous landscapes of the Rodale Institute’s pristinely kept campus provided the perfect backdrop for mornings of Earth-loving fun.
Every week, Farm Manager Jennifer Smith (a.k.a. Farmer Jenni) offered simple ways for residents to help with Phoebe Organic Farm’s food and flower production. These activities included plucking fresh produce, managing new crops, and arranging colorful bouquets.
Residents were always encouraged to leave with something they liked.
For those visiting the farm for the first time, Farmer Jenni and her team at Rodale offered ride-along tours of the campus, showing off the immense scale of the farm and the many different areas for activities.
These farm visits offered a unique way for residents to connect with nature and the produce they eat. Since the harvesting season began, crops and flowers have steadily supplied Chestnut Ridge’s Marketplace. Meanwhile, the culinary team at Chestnut Ridge incorporates fresher, organic produce from the farm into their dishes.
